The most light-hearted episode in the series, NatsuYuu 11 switches focus onto the enigmatic Madara a.k.a. Nyanko-sensei in a day of rebellion and self-discovery.
Yes, the economy is going down the drain.
So, Nyanko-sensei took a look at the disaster that is the U.S. economy and decided that the culprits were jumbo shrimps and brain-freezing J-Pop. Disapproved by Natsume, he was casted out of the house, thus beginning his day long bullying and self-deprecation on the streets and in the forrest.

It is a strange fact that sometimes the first party in a relationship knows less about the kind of relationship they are in than a third party. Numerous times in the prior episodes, many youkai, who had knew them for no more than a day, could point out the obvious closeness shared by Natsume and Nyanko, which they themselves vehemently denied. Some relationships just need a timeout period to discover themselves. Amazingly for Natsume and Nyanko, they only needed a day.
A cat is fine too.
After Nyanko left the house, both he and Natsume went about their independent ways of trying to substitute the other person with other things, which led to some of the funniest moments: Nyanko decided to abuse Natsume’s friends with his masculine interpretation of a typical high school girl, and Natsume cheated with another kitten. Poor Nyanko. But no matter what they tried, everything fell short of replacing each other.

As with most rebellions, Nyanko ended up in a pit. But this pit had a human girl who was too eager to protect a poor little kitten from the rain despite being unable to help herself, which reminded him why he had stuck with Natsume in the first place. However, perhaps the bigger reason was how contagious Natsume’s kind nature had been on Nyanko, whose opposite nature led him to go to the monk to ask for an exorcism in the forrest against the youkai who had made fun of him. Now that he’d been reminded, he returned the favor and carried the girl back home before he himself going back to Natsume who had been looking for him.
So, on one rare occasion of the show, an endangered relationship was saved.
